We are happy to announce that the Starfish Beach Resort masterplan project has achieved double wins at the Rethinking the Future Awards 2024! Our project stood out in the urban design (Concept) and Mixed Use (Concept) categories, securing FIRST place in both.

Project Summary

The project is a 58-hectare mixed-use development in Phu Quoc, Vietnam. It blends residential, retail, and hospitality components amidst the island’s beautiful coastal and forested landscapes. Starfish celebrates nature near the stunning Starfish Beach, embracing a tropical design approach to create an idyllic vacation environment.

Key Highlights

Nature-Inspired Design: Our vision was to create a premier beach and holiday destination in Phu Quoc, offering a unique, immersive retail experience surrounded by nature.

Seamless Integration: We carefully integrated the landscape with the intricate forest terrain, preserving natural contours and mature trees.

Sustainability Focus: Our strategies included passive design, sustainable materials, and ample green space. Starfish boasts 76% open space, with greenery integrated into central walkways, parks, roofs, and roadsides.

Central Commercial Spine: The lush commercial central spine enhances the visitor experience, featuring vibrant hubs for retail, leisure, and entertainment programs, such as open amphitheatres and infinity edge pools.

Premium Residential Areas: The project includes premium low-rise residential shophouses and villas offering fantastic sea or valley views. Luxury hill villas provide unobstructed panoramic vistas of pristine blue waters.

Overcoming Challenges

Site Integration: We responded to the challenges of the steep terrain by reducing cut and fill, ensuring that plots and road network levels adapted to the topography.

Functional Zoning: Proper zoning reduces density without sacrificing functionality, creating a strong placemaking destination that maximises space and serenity.

Sustainability Initiatives: Indigenous planting of native species helped minimise irrigation and maintenance, enhancing the beauty and sustainability of Starfish.
